The Creative Undoing Began with a Penny

No launch plan, no content calendar, no brand deck, no strategy. What I had was a drawer, a keyboard, and a penny.

It had been a long stretch of creative quiet. Not silence exactly—I’ve been working in a creative role, surrounded by brilliant, supportive women. But outside of the workday, I had nothing left. Perfectionism was draining my spark. Burnout had become familiar. Writing felt far away.

And then I opened my desk drawer.

There, tucked beneath my keyboard, was a penny. A small, ordinary thing—but for me, a direct message from my beloved Papa. He used to say, “I’m like a bad penny. I always turn up,” and after his death, finding pennies became hellos, nudges, moments of clarity.

That was the spark behind The Penny Under My Keyboard, the first piece in what’s now becoming a larger journey: The Creative Undoing.

Why I Changed the Name

This project started as The Daily Float, but over time, I realized I wasn’t floating—I was unraveling. Processing. Letting go. Coming home to myself. The writing was softer, deeper, less about updates and more about transformation. And I wanted a name that held all of that.

My loved ones have asked what the name means and why I chose the female reproductive system as the imagery associated with this weekly newsletter.

Because as women, we’re constantly evolving.

We’re shedding, releasing, and embodying the seasons each month, cycling through again and again, as the world turns and the moon glows.

The Creative Undoing is a space for:

  • People unlearning perfectionism

  • Those moving through grief or transition

  • Women gaslit by the medical system

  • Releasing spiritual practices that no longer serve us

  • Creatives who’ve lost their spark but want it back

  • Anyone listening for signs in the middle of their becoming

It’s where we talk about art and healing and spirituality—and how all of those things intersect in small, powerful ways.

If that sounds like you, I’d love to have you reading along.

You can listen to the full essay above and subscribe to the newsletter to get future posts straight to your inbox. You can also find my YouTube channel here.

And if you’ve ever received a sign when you needed it most—I hope this feels like one.
